A Freedom Chain is in the works for Saturday consisting of thousands of Canadians linked along the Trans-Canada Highway extending from B.C. to Newfoundland in an effort to regain some semblance of their democratically mandated liberties. Those likely to form the chain are no doubt of the same political mind-set denounced as Fascistic by our Prime Minister a couple of weeks ago.
Now Fascism used to refer to Dictatorial regimes given to imposing their Wills by Force, whatever the consensus of those beneath them. Fascists don’t give a damn about the Democratic Rights of the People!
But the Leftist mentality that has come to dominate Western Civilization over the last several decades is rife with a totally unwarranted intellectual arrogance rooted in the belief that “regular” people are really too stupid to be entrusted with what used to be considered their “god-given” political freedoms. Hence the rise of “cancel culture.” Hence the demonizing of electoral victories not in line with Leftist Ideology as expressions of an ugly right-wing “populism.” Hence Trudeau’s ignorant dismissal of those thousands who waved on the Freedom Convoy in the hopes that it might negotiate some relief from the strictures under which they have been living for the last two years, as a bunch of Fascists.
The truckers and those who supported them were not “anti-vax” simpletons. The vast majority of them were vaccinated. But certain troubling double-standards, certain strictures that seemed arbitrary, certain “medical certainties” which later proved to be sheer speculation, were clearly worthy of discussion with our Prime Minister. But he refused to even talk to the protesters. Indeed he invoked martial law to have them dispersed.
Yet in our mainstream media and the “minds” of my “liberal” acquaintances, it was not Trudeau who was the Fascist but the protesters, those who were in fact seeking to reestablish their basic Freedoms. As to the notion that they posed a serious threat to Canada’s Democracy, they were an amazingly peaceful, civilized group, the main problem being that there were so many of them. A couple of dozen trucks and a few hundred Canadians would have posed no inconvenience to life in Ottawa whatsoever. But hundreds of thousands across the country had expressed their support for the thousands more who clogged the streets of our capital. Do you see the Irony? Their very numbers suggested a significant level of discontent amongst the Canadian population. To a rational mind they were clearly exercising their Democratic right to peaceful protest. To the simpleton Trudeau, however, the popularity of their cause made them a Fascist threat! Truly disgusting!
