Pure Orwellian Doublespeak

Today [Jan. 9] Rumble posted a video of N.Y. Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez suggesting that the way to deal with the multitude of problems caused by the chaotic surge of illegal immigrants into the country over the last few years, is to simply document them, to in effect make them legal citizens. This, she declared, in an obvious reference to Donald Trump, is a far more rational response to the problem than the building of a wall! But was Trump’s wall, as she implies, a racially motivated attempt to keep certain people out of the U.S., or a perfectly rational way of forcing them to go through the proper channels, to in effect submit themselves to the legal documentation which Ocasio-Cortez was recommending?

It is an inarguable fact that the vast majority of the 180 cities and 11 states that declared themselves “sanctuaries” for those asylum seekers entering the U.S. illegally, are run by Democrats. In 2021, New York Governor Kathy Hochul welcomed them to her state with open arms. But just recently, Mayor Eric Adams said the migrant crisis might very well destroy N.Y. City. Officials there declared that in the week before Christmas alone, approximately 4,000 had arrived in search of food and shelter which the city was utterly unprepared to provide. It is a chaotic scenario that has been replicated in city after city across the U.S. and it is almost exclusively a result of the “compassionate,” open-armed immigration agenda of AOC’s very own political party. How then does she recommend the renewal of the legal protocols pertaining to those seeking citizenship within the States, protocols which “conservatives” have always defended, while at the same time implying her approach to the problem is typically “progressive”?

“Conservatives” support the Rule of Law on the assumption that its abandonment must inevitably result in a level of chaos that is beneficial to no one. The admission of every foreigner seeking to enter the States with no thought whatsoever of the repercussions, has led to such chaos. One suspects, however, that in recommending the “legalizing” of each and every migrant, AOC is not so much suggesting they be submitted to the immigration criteria of the past, but that they be declared legal citizens with no questions asked! If this is the case, she is simply endorsing the continuation of the very chaos she pretends to be trying to resolve.

Her recent statement, then, either advocates what Republicans have been saying all along or simply pretends to do so while changing nothing. Either way, it sheds little light whatsoever on the issue at hand.
