In a video I have just watched, Larry Elder is attacked by a caller for his denunciation of Critical Race Theory. What is C.R.T., Larry asks. Why, he is told, it is History seen through the lens of Race. So, the caller is informed, you are basically admitting it is a Racist vision of History! Oh, people like you love to twist my words, the caller screeches. But Elder was not twisting his words, indeed was simply reiterating what he had been told, the self-evident fact that C.R.T. reduces the complexities of History to one factor, thereby making it ludicrously superficial if not brazenly Racist.
Equally dismaying is a video posted yesterday by Dan Bongino showing a Biden State Department spokesperson, Ned Price, responding to the accusation of a seemingly “conservative” reporter that the Biden government had cancelled certain international agreements brokered by the Trump administration, thereby causing the international community to question the value of any agreement made with an American government. Price emphatically denied the charge only to have the reporter in question rhyme off three such commitments that had been broken in the first weeks of Biden’s administration. Ludicrously altering what he had said moments earlier, Price admitted that of course the Democrats had a different set of priorities, basically admitting that his original statement was a lie.
But lying is pandemic on the Left because acknowledging the Truth must inevitably reveal the absurdity of its basic assumptions and, more specifically, the naivete of its vision of Human Nature. Create a massive humanitarian crisis at your southern border by ignoring the existence of human traffickers and drug dealers and you are left with but two options: Deny that the crisis exists or blame it on someone else. Both are of course untrue. But the third option, an admission that the “compassionate” agenda of the Left is frequently at odds with the Pragmatic Demands of the real world as well as the Fact of Human Evil, amounts to an admission of the fundamental naivete of “progressivism” itself, the sort of admission generally beyond the capacity of religious fanatics.
It is perfectly predictable, therefore, that Democrats, unable to admit their Marxist disdain for the Rule of Law, have been trying to pin the “defund the police” fiasco on Republicans, a spin so outrageous that even the Leftist Washington Post yesterday, July 7, called them out for the liars that they are.
