Some Leftist “Logic” from Gavin Newsom

As reported by The Blaze on June 1, Gavin Newsom, Democratic Governor of California, recently sat down with conservative commentator Charlie Kirk in a discussion of various political issues. Among those was the fact that A. B. Hernandez, a biological Male who now identifies as a Girl, had just garnered one silver and two gold medals in the state’s high school track and field competitions for Females. Kirk, feeling this was an obvious violation of Women’s Rights, asked Newsom to comment.

On the one hand he expressed his agreement, saying: “Well, I think it’s an issue of fairness. I completely agree with you on that.” But then, in defending Trans rights, he followed with: “These poor people are more likely to commit suicide, have anxiety and depression, and the way that people talk down to vulnerable communities is an issue that I have a hard time with….” It is this compassion that is apparently his guiding light inasmuch as he has allowed athletes such as Hernandez to continue to compete against Females in spite of Trump’s recent declaration that biological Males have no right to do so.

But what of Newsom’s “compassion”? Does it not entail a lack of compassion for the multitude of Women who might be affected by his “inclusiveness”? Does it not fly in the face of his Rational assertion that Men competing in Women’s sports is obviously unfair? Indeed is his submission to “feelings” over Reason not typical of the absurdity of the contemporary Left?

Newsom refers to people who demean the vulnerable, implying the anguish and suicides of the latter to be generally the result of the ignorance and bigotry of others. Yes, there are those consumed by such ignorance and bigotry! But among them, he implies, are the “conservatives” presently expressing their outrage at the antics of individuals such as Hernandez. But is their outrage rooted in hatred or simple common sense? And what is the inevitable result of the “compassion” that motivates those such as Newsom?

The Existentialism espoused by Sartre, Camus and others, transcends the eccentricities of all traditional religions and establishes a sound, rational basis for Human Morality. While we are each assailed by all sorts of self-indulgent impulses, we are nevertheless, Existentialism teaches, gifted with the intellectual capacity for a level of Self-Awareness by which we may free ourselves from the grip of those impulses. Existential Man lives in Freedom and Integrity, the master of his own domain, utterly immune to the inanities that may percolate throughout the culture to which he is born! Leftist “compassion,” on the other hand, reduces vast portions of the species to the level of Victims, exonerated as such of any need for Self-Awareness or Moral Integrity! Indeed it has yielded a Culture in which only the successful are held accountable for their actions, all others allowed to indulge in childish, self-serving, loathsome behaviour by the “compassionate” Left!

Hence a world in which B.L.M. rioters were allowed to destroy over 2 billion dollars worth of private property in 2020 because they were the members of a “persecuted minority.” Hence judiciaries that release recidivist offenders over and over again, utterly impervious to their moral degeneracy. Hence the burning of multiple Catholic Churches in Canada because of the often unproven sins of our Residential Schools in the distant past. Hence Gavin Newsom’s empathy for a self-indulgent individual such as A. B. Hernandez who clearly cares nothing about Women’s Rights. The contemporary Left endorses a narrative that is indifferent to Morality while nevertheless claiming itself to be “progressive.” The ultimate irony of this narrative is that it literally incites the suicides, anxiety and depression mentioned by Newsom by legitimizing a state of mind that is the very opposite of that celebrated by the Existentialists, a state of mind mired in Victimhood and rife with a petty sense of Entitlement, rather than one given to the Freedom and Integrity born of an honest appraisal of both the Self and the circumambient World.
