In a recent appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher, former N.Y. Governor Andrew Cuomo pointed out that the State’s largest city, having declared itself a “sanctuary” for illegal aliens, was presently housing approximately 200,000 of them in local hotels at a tremendous cost to New York’s taxpayers. What is even more distressing, he said, is that the vast majority of them have no prospects of employment, thereby burdening the state with pragmatic problems well beyond those of a merely fiscal nature. Cuomo, a Democrat, agreed with his party’s conviction that as a nation of immigrants the U.S. must continue to welcome those seeking refuge within its borders, while nevertheless insisting that “how you do it makes all the difference in the world.” It is an endorsement of Reason which, if proffered by a Republican, would of course be denounced as a veiled form of racism. Yet N.Y.’s present governor, Kathy Hochul, also a Democrat, recently expressed her own reservations with the sanity of Biden’s open border policies when she begged the hundreds of thousands of “illegals” presently dispersed across the country Not to come to NYC!
In this past Thursday’s debate, Joe Biden claimed that the National Border Patrol Council, which represents approximately 18,000 border agents, had supported his immigration policies. However even as the debate was still in progress, the NBPC posted on X: “To be clear, we never have and never will endorse Biden.” Indeed in an earlier post, the same group had vilified Biden for suggesting that it was Republicans who had stifled the hiring of the necessary number of agents to properly secure the southern border. It’s response read: “In reality, Republicans have actually funded more agents in recent appropriation bills, in spite of Biden, not because of him.”
The negative impact of the suspension of the traditional, rational protocols governing Immigration, is a self-evident fact which ought to be a major focus of every news platform in the States. Of course it is not, inasmuch as highlighting it would appear to condone Donald Trump’s wall which was almost universally denounced as proof of his racism. In the same irrational fashion, Britain’s Brexit and the effort of various other European nations to regain control of their borders, are habitually attributed to White Supremacism, Islamophobia, etc., the impact of millions of Muslims whose values are utterly at odds with those of our Western Democracies, apparently of no concern to today’s “liberals.” As I’ve pointed out more than once, Inclusiveness precludes a rational discussion of all other issues! Yet isn’t it significant that those not preaching from their Ivory Towers, those compelled to deal with the Real World repercussions of Inclusiveness, [ i.e., the Democratic Governors of N.Y., both past and present, the National Border Patrol Council, etc., etc.], all seem to be spouting opinions consistent with what I have been defending as Rational Conservatism.
Clearly unwilling to vote Republican because of his loathing for Donald Trump, Bill Maher continues to call himself a “liberal” while nevertheless fully agreeing with Andrew Cuomo’s indictment of Biden’s border policies. His explanation is that contemporary liberalism has lost its way. What I would suggest, however, is that if he could somehow get beyond Trump’s obviously obnoxious qualities, he might come to see that contemporary Conservatism is literally indistinguishable from what he considers true Liberalism. Indeed the several Black conservatives I shall cite in my next blog who focus not on the skin color but rather on the moral/intellectual quality of each individual, would seem to represent the only real way of getting beyond a racist perspective. Yes, ironically, “liberals” obsessed with Race incite Racism while “conservatives” are Humanists who couldn’t care less about the color of your skin.
