A book has just been released on the life of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. It is entitled “Take Up Space: The Unprecedented A.O.C.”
I cannot comment on it and have no intention of reading it. On his Fox news show, however, Tucker Carlson was merciless in his criticism, focusing mainly on the disparity between her actual accomplishments and the outlandish praises heaped upon her by Lisa Miller, the book’s author.
No doubt Carlson’s politics have something to do with his disdain for the work in question. Yet when he points out that it suggests A.O.C. has a soul not dissimilar to that of Jesus Christ and that her high school projects indicate she might have won a Nobel prize in Science had she continued to pursue that discipline, one is tempted to believe that the work is somewhat less than objective in its narrative. What particularly seems to irritate Carlson is A.O.C.’s attempt to portray herself as an oppressed Woman of Color while living a life blessed with every advantage typical of a rich, “entitled” White Woman.
I obviously cannot comment on the accuracy of Carlson’s critique. But what is troubling is A.O.C.’s angry response that it was just another example of White, patriarchal, sexual harassment. Sadly, Ocasio-Cortez, when criticized, consistently plays the Victim Card rather than actually defending the substance of her ideas and actions. Such behavior would seem consistent with the testimony of several who have worked beneath her in what they have described as a truly toxic environment born of her demonstrably childish temperament.
Yet one can no longer offer any criticism, however rational, however warranted, of any member of the Left’s designated victimized classes [i.e., women, gays, people of color, etc.] without being accused of a hate crime. It is a recipe for the end of civilized discourse. It is a childish tactic born of an irrational world-view and its negative repercussions are evident seven days a week to anyone not utterly consumed by the fanaticism of the religious Left.
