The Jan. 6 Committee …. Such Hypocrisy!

Most are aware of the prime-time telecasts of the congressional investigation into the events of Jan. 6. While not absolving those who breached the Capitol that day, “conservative” commentators are appalled that the committee in question consists exclusively of those eager to denounce the “insurgents” in the most negative terms imaginable. Yes, the Vice Chair of the committee is a Republican, Liz Cheney, but she loathes Donald Trump and is clearly willing to do everything in her power to have him banished from her party. This past Sunday, on NBC’s Meet the Press, Cheney announced that Trump’s upcoming testimony would not be nationally televised as he might turn the investigation into a “circus.” So the committee’s concept of fairness entails nationally televising evidence supporting the narrative that Jan. 6 represented a concerted, Trump-endorsed effort to overthrow the American government, while arbitrarily deciding the chief target of their inquisition must testify behind closed doors.

Given this brazen bias, it would seem obvious those issues most incriminating to the committee’s narrative are likely to receive little in-depth examination at all. Trump’s assertion that he offered the services of the National Guard to the Capitol Police days before the 6th would suggest he was clearly not in favor of any violent breach of the Capitol. Research his claim and you will discover articles posted by the “fact checkers” at the Washington Post and elsewhere, declaring him to be a liar. Continue to scan, however, and you will find utterly contradictory pieces such as that published by NBC’s Alec Schemmel on June 9, 2022. The latter says an examination of the records of the Capitol Police shows that Trump’s Department of Defense offered the services of the National Guard 4 days in advance of the “insurrection,” an offer that was rejected. Further research shows that D.C.’s Democratic Mayor, Muriel Bowser, was fine with that decision, seeing the presence of such troops as a possible incitement to violence.

Space precludes a detailed analysis of the gross exaggerations about the 6th endlessly repeated by the Left. Constantly referred to as an “armed/deadly” insurrection, most reports suggest not a single one of the insurgents was actually armed with a gun while the only consciously perpetrated murder of the day was the shooting of Ashli Babbitt by a Capitol officer as she attempted to climb through a window. Other deaths that occurred were mere accidents or the result of the compromised health of the individuals in question. And while I have read dozens of articles on supposedly violent individuals with ties to radical groups such as The Proud Boys, 99% of those who breached the Capitol had no such affiliations. Indeed their preeminent motive, as with the tens of thousands in the streets of Washington, seems to have been their contempt for what Trump calls the “swamp” of Leftist political elitists who feel entitled to tell Americans that 2+2=17 and expect them to believe it [i.e., that Gender and Crime are just arbitrary constructs; that disparities in the human condition are all about Oppression and have nothing to do with Achievement; that National Borders no longer have any rational value, etc., etc.] What more perfectly expresses that contempt than the actions of Richard Barnett who breached Nancy Pelosi’s office and sat with his foot perched on her desk in a posture suggesting his utter disdain. No one is suggesting he ought to be exonerated, but is not the notion that he and his confederates were intent on overthrowing the U.S. Government a ludicrous misrepresentation of the Facts? And is not the Jan. 6 Commission a perfect example of the sort of the political bias/hypocrisy that prompted the “insurrection” in the first place? Cheney’s use of the word “circus” is ironic inasmuch as the inquiry would seem to be exactly that, even without the presence of the controversial ex-president.

A recent N.Y. Times piece suggested the majority of Americans have lost faith in the mainstream media. Polls show the Republicans are likely to make major gains in the upcoming mid-term elections. No one is idealizing either Trump or his MAGA followers, but more and more people would seem to be realizing that the simplistic, sentimental, Neo-Marxist agenda of the pathologically self-righteous Left represents a serious threat to the very existence of our Western Democracies.
