Donald Trump insisted from the very beginning that he had incited his followers not to overthrow the American government on Jan.6, but to simply protest the results of an election that he felt was pervasively tainted. Both the bias of the mainstream media and the obvious fact that the mail-in voting endorsed by the Left was eminently vulnerable to abuse, led him to conclude that the 2020 election had perhaps been the most corrupt in all of the country’s history.
As reported by Townhall Daily on Jan. 7, CNN analyst Harry Enton recently admitted that the majority of Americans see the Democrats’ characterization of the events of Jan.6, 2021 as an “insurrection,” to be a gross exaggeration designed to destroy Donald Trump. Indeed most feel the Orange One was not responsible for how the day unfolded. A complex subject, I shall be as brief as possible in citing facts which unequivocally show that Biden’s Democrats and the political Left in general have no right whatsoever to claim the moral high-ground on this issue.
To great applause from her audience, Sunny Hostin of The View said: “Jan. 6 was one of the worst moments in American history.” While she compared its impact to that of W.W II and Slavery, Harry Enton maintains this was the sort of ridiculous exaggeration which led the country to re-endorse Trump.
The President-elect has said all along that he suggested to House Speaker Pelosi that the National Guard ought to be called in to assist the Capitol Police should the protests of Jan. 6 get out of control. A sub-committee led by Republican Barry Loudermilk assigned to investigate the findings of the committee which originally ruled on the day’s events, has validated Trump’s claim, saying it encountered truly criminal resistance from various sources who clearly did not want the truth to be revealed. It took him 4 years, Loudermilk ranted, to acquire video footage of Nancy Pelosi frankly admitting that she was responsible for the security failures of the day. While various figures, including two Pentagon Army Generals, blamed the National Guard of D.C. for its failure to hold off the rioters, Capital Police Chief Steven Sund has testified his repeated requests for help went unheeded until it was too late. Why, one must wonder? Why?
If Trump was seeking to overthrow the elected government, he certainly would not have recommend calling in the National Guard. It makes absolutely no sense! The Left is appalled that he has promised to commute the sentences of many of the “insurrectionists” when he re-assumes power. According to Judicial Watch, 1,583 were charged in the aftermath of the event while 277 actually spent time behind bars. While some of the sentences were brief, the total time prescribed, according to the Washington Post, was 1,300 years. Yes, while my extensive research on the subject revealed no serious acts of violence among the “insurrectionist” who were bereft of deadly fire arms, explosives, etc., and seemed by and large intent on expressing their disdain for the powers that be, a disdain that I fully understand, many of them were in fact sentenced to multiple years in prison. Politico, a Leftist website, listed several of those so convicted while offering little to justify the length of their sentences. One Thomas Webster, for example, was given 10 years for “assaulting” a D.C. police officer. His assault, according to Politico, entailed him tackling the officer in question and grabbing his gas mask. Really? We have individuals convicted of multiple crimes released on bail only to offend again and again, while Henderson is behind bars for tackling a cop?
No doubt some of those convicted by the Jan. 6 committee were deserving of their sentences. But I am equally certain that the vast majority of the 1,583 charged were guilty of nothing more than holding views offensive to the political Left. Richard Barnett was given 4 years for simply entering Nancy Pelosi’s office and disdainfully putting his feet up on her desk. While Trump has not announced who or how many he will pardon upon his ascent to office, his insistence that most of those indicted by the Jan. 6 committee were victims of political bias seems eminently rational. Attorney General Merrick Garland, on the other hand, recently announced that 200 more who entered the Capitol may soon be charged. Of course those who did so committed a crime. Yet many of them said Capitol Police Officers actually escorted them inside, leading them to believe they were doing nothing wrong. Ought Garland still to be attempting to prosecute such people 4 years later?
Believe me, I know Donald Trump is far from perfect. I find his threats to make Canada the 51st U.S. State utterly obnoxious. But one must attempt to evaluate each issue on its own merits and his promise to use his powers to exonerate many who did little more than march into a federal building 4 years ago, seems perfectly justified. To those on the Left who would insist it entails a gross abuse of his presidential authority, I would point out the facts revealed by Not the Bee in its Dec. 31 newsletter. Did you know that while Trump exonerated or commuted the sentences of 237 convicted criminals throughout his presidency, Joe Biden did so 8,027 times in his 4 years? Among those he removed from death row, the Bee pointed out, was one Marvin Gabrion who raped an 18 year old girl and then proceeded to kill her 2 days before his trial to keep her from testifying, while also murdering her 1 year old daughter. Joe Biden, it seems to me, is easily the worst president in U.S. history. While some of his intimates have recently come forward to admit they felt he was basically senile many months ago, the mainstream press, in its absurd Leftist bias, had relatively little to say about this. Yet it never stopped ranting about the horrific crimes of those thousands of decent American citizens who felt their country was losing its way and marched on the Capitol in 2021 in an expression of what they saw as their patriotic duty.
