Recently, as he was about to launch into a discussion of the Hamas-Israeli conflict, Trevor Noah announced that he would be “setting aside motives and intentions.” A simpleton of the very first order, Noah spends night after night mocking “conservatives” with the sophistication of a grimacing six year old, never going anywhere near a consideration of the substance of the views he is deriding. It is not surprising, therefore, that he in essence decided to eliminate Morality as an issue from his impending “analysis.”
On Fox News a couple of days ago, “conservative” Dan Bongino and Geraldo Rivera faced off on the same topic. While Geraldo repeatedly invoked the image of dead Palestinian children in his denunciation of the Israelis, Bongino insisted he address the issue of moral culpability. “Why did this happen?” he basically asked, “Who caused it?” Clearly unwilling to discuss the actual events leading up to the Israeli retaliation, Rivera went on and on ranting about dead Palestinian kids. Such is the moral/intellectual bankruptcy of the Left, mindless sentiment rather than a rational appraisal of the facts being its inevitable, and indeed, only political stratagem.
Yet how inspiring to learn of the history of the Palestinian Mosab Hassan Yousef, son of Hassan Yousef, a co-founder of Hamas. Groomed to follow in his father’s footsteps, Mosab decided as a young man that Hamas was a racist/terrorist organization unworthy of his support. Actually becoming an undercover spy for the Israelis from 1997 to 2007, he has since emigrated to the U.S. and converted to Christianity. His comments in a recent interview with the N.Y. Post’s Jon Levine, rather than glossing over the fundamental issue of the malevolence of Hamas, rather than simply ignoring the cancer of human evil, focused very specifically on the actions of his father and his confederates who, he said, had no doubt survived Israeli counter attacks in underground bunkers while actually celebrating the deaths of innocent Palestinians as an effective propaganda weapon in winning the support of the Western Press, which of course includes simpletons such as Rivera and Noah.
The interview having occurred after the recent ceasefire, Yousef nevertheless encouraged the Israelis to continue to hunt down and kill the leaders of Hamas. “Next time, before you get civilians on both sides involved in a bloodbath, you need to think 1000 times.” Asserting that “Hamas hates Israel more than they love their own children,” he clearly disagreed with the view that Palestinian children had died because of Israeli malice. Nor was he willing to eliminate the “motives” and “intentions” of Hamas from discussion, insisting that Israel needs to “teach them a lesson and hold them accountable.”
[For those of you on the Left, “accountability” is a moral term designed to deter people from behaving abominably while blaming others for their abominations.]
While you are not likely to hear it celebrated in the mainstream news, the Trump administration managed to restore some level of normalcy to relations between Israel and several Arab Nations through the Abraham Accords. Unwilling to agree to any deal which might imply Israel’s right to exist, Hamas, apparently, was furious that Bahrain, The United Arab Emirates and others had done so. Hence its basically unprovoked attack.
Mosab Hassan Yousef, courageously putting his principles as a Thinking, Moral Being before his Racial Identity, characterizes Hamas and its Iranian backers as merchants in terror fed by a medieval level of religious fanaticism that makes them utterly unworthy of Western trust. Sadly, he points out, a good many in Gaza would seem to feel the same way though, for obvious reasons, they keep it to themselves, simply trying to stay alive from day to day.
