The Thought Police [because we’re too stupid to Think for Ourselves]

Today [July 23] on the website of True North, Jordan Peterson engaged Alberta’s wonderful “conservative” premier Danielle Smith in a discussion of Bill C 59, a budgetary piece of legislation introduced last Nov. enabling the Canadian government to continue to operate. The problem with such bills, Smith pointed out, is that aside from their central focus, they often include dozens of secondary stipulations which might never gain approval were they to be considered on their own. This sleazy practice, she says, has become quite common both north and south of our border.

As the Premier of Canada’s chief energy producing province, Smith finds the environmental fanaticism of the Trudeau government utterly undemocratic. She is outraged but not surprised, therefore, to discover among the many addenda to Bill C 59, is one which decrees that oil and gas companies discussing their environmental history and accomplishments must adhere to certain international emission standards. That these “standards” are ill-defined and subject to interpretation, she says, will inevitably lead many of the executives of the companies in question to keep their mouths shut for fear of becoming embroiled in frivolous lawsuits. Of course that is precisely the intent of the Thought Police behind the bill.

Believing in Free Will and the Free Market, Danielle Smith suggests that both the diminishing supply of fossil fuels as well as concern for their possible impact on the environment, must inevitably lead to the development of new and cleaner sources of energy. Her faith in the species, however, is definitely not shared by our contemporary “liberals” whose “liberalism” apparently entails the fascist belief that you must always see the world exactly as they do.
