As reported by Daybreak Insider, V. P. Vance proudly declared that violent crime in Washington D.C. had dropped by 35% in 9 days since Donald Trump decided to supply the city with policing reinforcements. Shockingly, over a 7 day period there had been no murders whatsoever. In addition the Daybreak article noted that robberies were down 46% and carjackings an amazing 83%. I fully believe all of this and am certain crime could be radically reduced most everywhere in the Western world if only our “progressive” leaders would grant the Rule of Law the priority it so deserves.
But in its eagerness to support the Republican focus on the Rule of Law, the Daybreak article made some pretty bizarre statements. Prior to Trump’s action, we are told, D.C.’s murder rate was 523% higher than that of the the average State. But this is an absurd statistic given that all states consist of vast expanses of sparsely populated terrain whereas D.C. is a densely populated urban centre! The crime rate of any city, that is, must surpass the crime rate of any state! In the same way the assertion that the frequency of robberies in D.C. has been 370% higher than that of Maryland, apparently the worst state in the nation, is of only marginal significance. My point is simply that “conservatives” must adhere to Reason in defending their world-view, rather than resorting to the sort of nonsense that is so typical of the contemporary Left!
