MSNBC’s Joy Reid has on more than one occasion defended Kamala Harris from the criticisms of her detractors on the grounds that they were more often than not lodged by White Males clearly motivated by their race and gender. This of course exonerated her from the need to actually deal with the substance of their criticisms which in almost every instance seemed to be perfectly justified.
So there’s the Trump Card, the Race Card, the Gender Card and indeed various other human permutations which the Left seems to have decided absolve it of the need to actually confront issues from a moral/intellectual perspective.
The View’s Whoopi Goldberg recently assailed Supreme Court Judge Clarence Thomas for the cancellation of Roe v. Wade, suggesting that he, a Black man married to a White woman, might be the next target of “conservatives” intent on dragging America back into the 19th Century. But what does the issue of abortion have to do with race? Is it those seeking to defend the rights of the unborn we need to fear, or those such as Whoopi who seem incapable of legitimate, rational thought?
A.O.C. recently ranted against the criticisms of Dave Rubin, Tucker Carlson and Ben Shapiro, pointing out that they are all men, her implication of course being that sexism was stoking their views rather than the absurdity of much of what she says and does.
In defending Clarence Thomas against those who sought to have him fired from his position at George Washington U., Ben Carson recently pointed out on Fox News that the Left hates no one more than a Black “conservative,” their simplistic assumption being that all Blacks, out of sheer self-interest, ought to vote Democrat, as indeed all Hispanics, all Women, all Gays, etc., etc.. In a perfect refutation of Identity Politics, he observed succinctly: “What makes you what you are is your Brain—-not your skin!” Such is the informing principle of what used to be called Classical Liberalism, now frequently dismissed as “right-wing extremism.”
In a May 25 discussion on the Black News Channel between Black academic Marc Lamont Hill and White “conservative” Christopher Rufo, the former repeatedly asks the latter to explain what’s so good about being White! Watching the exchange is like witnessing a conversation between two people speaking utterly different languages. Hill is a devotee of Critical Race Theory; Rufo is not! While certainly not claiming them to be values espoused by Whites alone, Rufo cites Western European Man’s embrace of Science and Reason as cultural norms obviously responsible for the relative success of most White, Western, Democratic Nations. But as I have pointed out in several blogs, C.R.T., invoking Postmodern Relativism, insists all such predilections to be no more than racial biases. Hill, in other words, seeing all of history as a pandemic of oppression, is pathologically incapable of admitting the social/economic status of Whites to be in any way a reflection of the superiority of their values. And of course those millions of Blacks who, as Ben Carson suggests, embrace those values, are not evidence of Man’s capacity as an Intelligent Being, but merely Uncle Toms who have succumbed to their White masters. Marc Lamont Hill, as indeed most on the deluded Left, is simply incapable of admitting that America evolved as it did not exclusively because of its various moral lapses, lapses which no student of history would dare deny, but at least in part due to the demonstrable superiority of White Western Culture.
Hill’s inability to even consider this hypothesis made his discussion with Rufo utterly futile, as indeed is all discourse between those who define Man in terms of superficialities such as Race, Gender and Sexual Orientation, and those still convinced that we are Intelligent/Moral Beings bound by our nature as such [i.e., “conservatives”].
