Wikipedia: Spygate [conspiracy theory]

Donald Trump’s allegation that he was illegally spied upon leading into the 2016 election for crassly political reasons with the knowledge of both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton is generally treated in the mainstream media with disdain. Seek to investigate the topic and one of the first articles you will encounter is Wikipedia’s “Spygate [conspiracy theory].” The title says it all. Trump is a compulsive liar and his charges utter nonsense. Of course over the last five years a number of investigations have been conducted which suggest at the very least that that is a grossly simplistic analysis. A tag on the Wikipedia article says it was last updated on Feb. 17, 2022, so the platform clearly had ample opportunity to consider some of the disturbing information recently unearthed. But it did not. As it is consulted as a trusted source of truth by hundreds of millions around the planet, it is but further evidence of the enormous cultural bias confronting “conservatives,” a bias we are told constantly is just another “conspiracy theory.”

I cannot possibly cite all the players and lies exposed by special counsel John Durham and others over the last few years. But a few facts may serve to illustrate the dishonesty of so much that is passed off today as truth by those who are in fact no longer capable of recognizing the truth.

The Steele dossier, submitted by former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele, purported to expose Donald Trump’s collusion with Russia in his attempt to defeat Hillary in 2016. It has pretty much been exposed as a bunch of lies based on second hand information from other liars. John Ratcliffe, former director of National Intelligence, has produced evidence showing that CIA chief John Brennan informed Barack Obama that Hillary was intent on distracting attention from her E mail scandal by casting suspicion on Trump in any way she could. Moreover CIA operatives have insisted they informed the FBI that the Steele dossier was a hoax. Yet the FBI proceeded with the investigation that ultimately led to the first attempt to impeach Donal Trump!

A CNN article published in Nov. 2021 and written by Marshall Cohen states quite frankly: Trump swiftly rejected Steele’s claims and said “a group of opponents…….put that crap together.” Nearly five years later, it’s clearer than ever that he wasn’t too far off about the origins of the dossier.

Steele prepared that document for a private investigative firm named Fusion GPS. Again, from the Cohen article: The money flowed from Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign to law firm Perkins Cole, to the research company Fusion GPS, and then ultimately to Steele, who got $168,000.

The thrust of the Cohen article is more or less summarized in the following: Two special counsel investigations, multiple congressional inquiries, civil lawsuits in the U.S. and the United Kingdom, and an internal Justice Department review have now fully unspooled the behind-the-scenes role that some Democrats played in the saga. They paid for the research, funneled information to Steele’s sources, and then urged the FBI to investigate Trump’s connections to Russia.

In a previous blog I mentioned lawyer Michael Sussmann of Perkins Cole who not only encouraged the FBI investigation but arranged to have various Trump residences hacked, all the while failing to mention his firm was in the employ of Hillary’s campaign. His contempt for the truth would seem to be the common characteristic of those exposed by the multiple investigations cited by Cohen.

Christopher Steele says he had no idea his dossier was being compiled for Hillary’s campaign.

Barack Obama maintains he had never been told of Clinton’s plan to distract attention from her E mail scandal by attacking Trump.

The FBI insists the CIA had never informed it of the fraudulence of the Steele dossier.

The Democratic National Committee says it was unaware that a legal firm in its employ had instigated that dossier.

And of course Hillary has claimed all along that she knew nothing of any of the above.

Yes, individuals and firms with obvious ties to the Democratic Party engaged in an extensive, nefarious effort to destroy Trump’s candidacy, but no one in the upper echelons of that Party had any idea of what was going on. And the FBI, which is in no way entitled to use its powers for political purposes, somehow managed to remain ignorant of the duplicity of the Steele dossier though it was a known fact to the CIA. Yep, nobody knew anything about anything!

Apparently willing to accept such “logic,” Wikipedia concluded in its article on Spygate that the Steele dossier did not in fact trigger the investigation into Trump’s collusion with Russia. Those who gave evidence incriminating to Barack, Hillary and the DNC were all, apparently, lying, as of course was Donald Trump in his absurd claim that he had been the victim of a conspiracy.

As I have said repeatedly, Trump is clearly a flawed individual. But the mainstream notion that he is Satan himself, Trumpism now being a synonym for Fascism, is absurd. Nothing better illustrates the incredible bias if not dementia of the contemporary Left than Wikipedia’s disregard for all sorts of salient facts as it concluded that Trump’s claim of having been illegally spied upon was just more evidence of his incomparable egotism. Shameful!
