On Sun., July 7, Republican Senator Marco Rubio appeared on CNN’s State of the Union to be interviewed by Dana Bash. Irked by several statements implying that the re-election of Donald Trump would mean the end of America’s Democracy, Rubio responded with some facts that appear to be unequivocally true! On the one hand he cited the irony of the fact that during Biden’s presidency both he and Democrats in various states have used just about every aspect of the country’s law enforcement machinery to assure that Trump could never run for office again. While that effort has apparently failed, Rubio’s implication was that it entails an abuse of government authority that is clearly fascistic in nature. At the same time he pointed out that during his four years as president, Trump had not once used the Justice System to go after any Democrat of note, including Biden, Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. So who, he seemed to be asking, was the real threat to America’s Democracy, Joe Biden’s Democrats or Donald Trump?
While I share Trump’s disdain for many aspects of Leftist Ideology, his often belligerent attacks on his opponents are clearly not conducive to meaningful political dialogue. But as Rubio pointed out in his interview, Trump, while asking his followers to aggressively defend their Principles, has never incited violence against any particular political opponent. In the light of the recent attempt on his life, many of a “conservative” perspective are pointing fingers and blaming the mainstream media and Leftist commentators in general for inciting hatred against the Orange One. But while there is some truth to this accusation, Trump himself is not blameless for the rancorous nature of the contemporary political climate. Paradoxically, however, the very belligerence which makes his opponents hate him, is the quality which leads his followers to know that he will always courageously defend their values. Here in Canada I could cite multiple Conservatives who, when accused of being patriarchal, racist, Islamophobic or any one of the other multitude of insults relentlessly invoked by the Left, have pathetically capitulated and ceased to be anything resembling a “conservative.” While Trump’s rhetoric is not what his followers might prefer in the defense of their perfectly rational values, it does tell them he will fight to the bitter end in their defense. And that does Not make him Adolf Hitler!
And oh, by the way, America is rife with checks and balances designed to deter any individual or party from assuming dictatorial power. Ironically, it was one such that was realized on July 1 when the Supreme Court ruled that Trump’s status as President rendered him immune from prosecution for certain official acts he had performed while in office. The targets of the ruling, of course, were the Fascist Democrats who, over the last ten years, have repeatedly tried to destroy him with accusations that have ultimately been proven to be false. A wonderful July 19 article written by Victor David Hanson and published on Townhall’s website, lists the various lies in question. I encourage you to read it. In spite of Hillary’s insistence that the Steele dossier proved Trump to be in collusion with Russia, that was not true. In spite of 51 “intelligence” officers insisting, as the 2016 election approached, that Hunter Biden’s incriminating laptop was just a Republican manufactured hoax, that was also not true. The American Left has repeatedly lied in its pursuit of power and that is disgusting. The title of Townhall’s article says it all: ” Can we let the voters decide — Not the FBI, CIA, DOJ, Lawyers, Prosecutors, and Judges?”
