In a recent interview with Dave Rubin, David Horowitz, born to a family of devout Communists, speaks of his conversion to “conservatism” during the Reagan years. Those devoted to the ideal of “social justice,” he says, actually loathe human freedom and therefore, quite logically, the United States itself. Given the Democratic Party’s swing to the Left, it is hardly surprising, he insists, that Biden is trying to establish a One Party State, seeking to re-design the Supreme Court because he does not have a majority there, while also impugning the value of the Electoral College because it tends to deter large urban enclaves of “liberals” from dominating the outcome of every federal election. The notion that checks and balances are integral to the functioning of a healthy Democracy is no longer of concern to Biden and his gang of ideologues. Their endorsement of cancel culture, Horowitz points out, is but a latter day incarnation of McCarthyism which the Left ironically sees as the very nadir of modern American history. What he shares with Rubin, of course, is that the latter was also on the political Left but chose to leave when he found it to be authoritarian, narrow-minded and decidedly uninterested in exploring the actual complexities of any given issue.
Leo Terrell, a Black Civil Rights attorney and former “liberal,” explained recently on Fox News that he moved to the Right “because Joe Biden, imperial wizard, said if you don’t vote for me, you ain’t Black.” For Terrell, Biden’s statement represented a brazen denunciation of Freedom of Thought and Speech, indeed was an insult to every Black person in the country!
In April, John Lee, Mayor of North Las Vegas, announced he too was leaving the Democratic Party which, he claims, has abandoned the working class it pretends to represent. Ironically, he says, its is Republicans, typically demonized by the Left as the champions of the rich and powerful, who, in their defense of Capitalism, are actually protecting the freedoms and opportunities available to those genuinely eager to improve their plight. Perhaps the Elitism of the Democrats is no more evident than in Hilary’s denunciation of Trump supporters as “deplorables.” Are there those within the “silent majority” worthy of that epithet? Of course there are. But Hilary’s grossly stereotypical statement clearly indicates the extent to which her party, led on by an “intellectual” sector that seems to have lost its mind, has come to disdain the so-called common man, the very demographic that used to be considered the backbone of a healthy Democracy..
Now broadcasting with Prager U., Georgia Howe, another former “liberal” who moved to the right, recently interviewed Gabriel Nadales who was actually a member of Antifa until she came to her senses, now finding that group juvenile, fascistic and a threat to the very fundamentals of a Democracy.
I have written elsewhere of various high profile politicians and social critics who experienced the same moral/intellectual awakening. Brandon Straka’s “Walk Away” movement has inspired thousands to join him in that leap forward. On the other hand I know of no public figures who have chosen to celebrate their abandonment of Reason and Morality for the juvenile, sentimental, “woke” culture of the contemporary Left. If you are reading this blog, you no doubt understand why. But how do we convince those who have absurdly decided that Reason and Morality are no more than White, Western, Patriarchal delusions?
