Zihran Mandani is the Democrats’ nominee for mayor in N.Y.C.’s upcoming election. Born in Uganda in 1991, arriving in the States as a 7 year old, he was elected to the New York State Assembly in 2020. Having stated unequivocally that he favours the abolition of private property, he is a socialist if not hard-core communist. His platform includes massive government intrusions into the private sector, i.e. free public transit, city owned grocery stores, publicly funded child care, etc., etc..
While several Democrats have expressed their objections to his candidacy, it would seem an obvious example of the contemporary Left’s very real aversion to the freedoms traditionally associated with Democracy. In the demented version of “progressivism” supported by many of today’s “intellectuals,” governments run most everything while those chafing against the restrictions imposed on their freedom are dismissed as mere self-centered “populists.” Hence the candidacy of an Authoritarian in what used to be the world’s greatest Democracy!
