Seeking to defend the rights of transgenders, the Public School Board of Loudoun County, Virginia, approved Policy 8040 which gives every student in its domain the right to use the washrooms and locker rooms of their chosen gender. A recent controversy has led many to question the sanity of this policy.
After a gym class at Stone Bridge High School in March, a biological Female who now identifies as Male overheard 3 boys in their shared locker room discussing their discomfort with her presence. She videotaped them in this private moment and was subsequently reprimanded for having done so. But 2 of the boys were found guilty of sexual harassment and suspended for 10 days. In addition they were ordered to submit themselves to some “corrective” therapy. A legal challenge to this decision has since been launched and the parents of one of the boys have removed their son from Stone Bridge High and moved to another state.
The Aug. 20 Blaze article from which I learned of this controversy pointed out that Policy 8040 had been approved even after a Male student claiming to be Female had been found guilty of raping a girl in a school restroom he had been allowed to share with her. No doubt, given the stereotype proffered today on the aggressiveness of heterosexual Males, many would be willing to admit the danger of allowing Men who say they are now Women into spaces where they might fully indulge their lust for the opposite sex. But might not Women who lust after Men also be guilty of such duplicity? Is not the only objective way of distinguishing the sexes the biological fact of each individual’s condition at birth? This in no way entails denying the legitimacy of those born to a state of Gender Ambiguity. As has been acknowledged in many jurisdictions, there needs to be separate spaces in which they can engage in their most intimate acts. But just as I can fully understand the discomfort of Females forced to undress before individuals endowed with penises, so can I understand the discomfort of the two young boys suspended by their “progressive” schools for feeling uncomfortable in their locker room before one who was born biologically Female.
Rulings based on Feelings rather than Facts are of no pragmatic value. Indeed they are the gateway to complete Legal, Cultural and Political Chaos!
