No one is denying that various sectors of our species have been victimized in the past by their more powerful “oppressors.” Such is the basic focus of the Marxist world-view. But in so many cases the supposed oppression reviled by Marx was far more complicated than his simplistic narrative would suggest. That Canada’s founders deemed it appropriate to establish Residential Schools in order to educate their Indigenous population made perfect sense 150 years ago, given the intellectual primitivism of the peoples involved. This is an Objective Truth and not an example of White Supremacism. Yes, the schools were hardly perfect and no doubt included some ignorant racists, but the notion that they were genocidal in intent is utter nonsense. Yet given its Leftist belief that the criminal behavior of the “oppressed” is less about morality than their troubled past, Canada’s Supreme Court established The Gladue Principle in 1999 whereby Indigenous criminals would be treated significantly less harshly for their crimes than the rest of the population. The motive behind this edict was to rectify the inordinately high percentage of Indigenous offenders in Canada’s prisons. This “injustice” was not apparently the result of their utter disrespect for the rights of others, but of the historical persecution of their ancestors.
But gee, isn’t exonerating any sector of a population prone to criminality likely to incite it to even greater violations of the law? Could the Gladue Principle have anything to do with the more than 100 Catholic Churches that have been torched and otherwise vandalized over the last few years here in Canada? Indeed has the narrative of Victimization relentlessly cultivated by the Left not removed the issue of Personal Responsibility from the contemporary political debate?
Not a day goes by here in North America without some new example of a group or individual seeking to escape responsibility for their actions by invoking their status as Victims. This past Saturday, DiJonai Carrington, a Black member of The Chicago Sky, was ejected from a basketball game for having viciously attacked her White opponent Sophie Cunningham. Shortly after her ejection, she posted online that she had been a victim of White Privilege! While this is hardly an earth shattering issue, it aptly exemplifies the extent to which our “progressive” culture has absurdly replaced a Moral Vision of our species with one based on the dictates of Race, Gender, etc.. Identity Politics, truly superficial!
The absurdity of the West’s cultural climate is perhaps no more comically evident than in the decades long insistence by Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren that she was of Indigenous origin. No doubt convinced that her Identity as a persecuted minority might enhance her political aspirations, she registered at both the U. of Pennsylvania and Harvard’s Law School as a Native American. In 1984 she contributed recipes to a cook book entitled “Pow Wow Chow!” When Donald Trump challenged her Indigenous Identity, she was submitted to DNA testing that showed she was in fact one/one thousandth Indian! Truly absurd!
On Aug. 11, Not the Bee posted an interview with Democratic Socialist Frances Gill in which she suggested that police forces and prisons might become unnecessary were our governments willing to eradicate the social injustices that are the true causes of crime. She is literally implying that human Evil is a Fiction. But how, Ms. Gill, do you explain the loathsome greed you so despise among our Capitalist Elites? What causes their supposed perversity? Are you not endorsing a ludicrous double standard? Does not all of History validate the Fact of Human Evil amongst both the rich and the poor? Indeed is not the neo-Marist narrative of the Left which celebrates the Victimized over all others both comic and pathetic in its stupidity?
