As a brief addendum to my last blog, let us consider for a moment the statement made last Thursday by N.Y. assemblywoman Emily Gallagher in front of the Manhattan Criminal Court. As reported by The Blaze, Fox News and The N.Y. Post, Gallagher shed scorn on those complaining of the rising rate of petty thievery within her city, claiming the true moral abomination to be rectified was the outrageous gap between the very rich and the very poor. Suggesting the latter were simply running off with necessities like soap and toothpaste which they could not afford, she in essence condoned the petty thievery in question. Callously assuming the victims of such thievery were generally billionaires who could afford to be ripped off, she failed to consider the devastating effect her “compassion” would have on the millions of family-owned businesses across the country which might in fact be devastated by the daily theft of their products! She was quite literally, many pointed out, opening the door to widespread socio-economic chaos! My point is simply that her lunacy ought not to surprise anyone inasmuch as it is the perfectly predictable result of an Ideology rooted in Mindless Sentiment rather than Simple Common Sense!
