Trump: Neither a Monster nor a Saint!

It seems to me that both those who defend Donald Trump’s every action as well as those who see him as a despicable tyrant, are acting at the behest of their political biases rather than actually judging the man for what he is.

On Nov. 20, Jia Cobb, a Washington D. C. judge appointed by Joe Biden, ruled that the assignment of approximately 2000 National Guardsmen to the Nation’s capitol by President Trump entailed an illegal violation of the rights of the District’s own Judiciary. Knowing that an appeal would be forthcoming, she paused the imposition of her ruling for 3 weeks. I am no Constitutional or Judicial scholar and am certainly in no position to comment on the legality of Trump’s move. But however questionable his right to do it, its results have been quite remarkable.

In comparison to the same period in 2024, the presence of the National Guard in D.C. has resulted in a 19% decrease in assaults, a 48% decrease in burglaries, a 36% decrease in car thefts, and a 57% decrease in murders. Surely these results ought not to be flippantly dismissed by Trump’s many haters. While his manner of pursuing his goals is frequently worthy of criticism, the goals themselves often make perfect sense. Democrats’ dismissal of his attempt to stifle crime in D.C. as just another example of his arrogance, therefore, seems to entail an indifference to the welfare of the very people they are supposed to represent. But then again, doesn’t the Left’s willingness to “compassionately” release violent criminals who have been arrested dozens of times, reek of that very same indifference?

My point is simply that Trump, while not perfect, is certainly not the monster portrayed daily in the mainstream news.
