As reported by both Juno News and The National Post here in Canada, Justin Trudeau recently attended a political conference in Finland which led to an interview with a Finnish journalist in which he granted that his government had in fact admitted more immigrants into Canada than it should have throughout his years in office. As reported by The Frazer Institute, immigration in Canada increased almost 400% under Trudeau! To rational conservatives, of course, this upsurge has inevitably led to problems in housing, health care, the job market, social services, deficit spending and crime. When they make such claims, of course, they are denounced as Racists! Yet while admitting that he had been indiscreet in the number of foreigners he had allowed into Canada, Trudeau insisted in his interview that a generous level of immigration is essential to the health and future of the country.
Key to the success of this dynamic, he said, are the values common to Canadians and those they welcome into their midst. His various references to “shared values,” however, raise some disturbing questions! The “value” motivating Trudeau’s immigration agenda is clearly Inclusiveness, the central focus of the contemporary Left. But inclusiveness Excludes the very moral/intellectual values which have, however imperfectly, informed Western Civilization since the days of Ancient Greece. The simple fact is that if Inclusiveness is one’s defining value, one has no moral-intellectual values at all, a pulse apparently being all any individual needs to be worthy of our support and compassion. Hence the absurdity of Trudeau’s attempt to justify his immigration policies by invoking the concept of “shared values.”
There are multiple examples of migrants to Canada who do not share the values of the vast majority of Canadians. Those guilty of attacking synagogues across the country in support of terrorist groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah, would seem irrefutable evidence of this fact. But the most glaring example of the sheer stupidity of inclusive politics is what has recently transpired in the city of New York, arguably America’s most archetypal city, representing the very essence of the country’s values!
New Yorkers have elected a Communist. Born in Uganda in 1991, Zohran Mamdani, a Muslim, came to the states as a 7 year old. At that point, of course, no one could have predicted how his political views might evolve. Statements by both himself and his various officials condemning private property and other aspects of Capitalism, however, make it quite clear that he stands against the very Freedoms upon which America was founded. While a certain % of White American Leftists are no doubt stupid enough to share his views, one wonders what % of the more than 1 million who voted for Mamdani were immigrants who recently came to America to better their lives, while at the same time utterly resenting the “privileges” of the wealthy.
Indictments of Individuals based on Identity are definitively prone to error! While there are millions of Muslims across the planet who continue to cling to some of the truly barbaric beliefs of traditional Islam, there are no doubt millions of others who have rejected them at the behest of their humanity. An immigration policy which ignores this distinction is truly absurd. Justin Trudeau’s insistence that “shared values” have anything to do with his immigration agenda, is a brazen lie. As validated by the 10 million illegals whom Biden let into the States subject to no serious scrutiny whatsoever, he too is a slave to the nihilist value of Inclusiveness. What has happened in N.Y.C. is no accident. Indeed it is the predictable result of a neo-Marxist narrative that paints Western Civilization as the greatest villain in human history. And yet hundreds of millions from Asia and Africa have sought entry to the nations of Europe and North America to partake of the very freedoms and affluence born of the West’s amazing achievements! The Left’s refusal to honor those achievements is truly ridiculous!
Multiple European nations are lamenting the negative impact on their Cultures wrought by the open border policies of the European Union. The plight of Ireland distresses me most as I wrote my M.A. thesis on James Joyce’s “Ulysses” and grew to truly love the Irish culture. But Culture is not an issue to the brain-dead Left and Justin Trudeau’s dissertation on “shared values” is mere meaningless mumbo jumbo.
