On July 21, Mike Gallagher of Salem News posted a speech given by Secretary of State Marco Rubio just a few days earlier. In it Mr. Rubio identifies the ugliness that lies at the heart of the contemporary Left. Indeed he validates why this blog is entitled “The Politics of Hate!” While I shall not cite his every word, the following excerpts from his speech make his point quite emphatically.
Of the radical Left, Rubio says: ” This is a distinctive and unique evil. It has always been driven by a hatred above all else, a hatred for civilization itself. It is a revolt of the worst against the best, a revolt of the weak and the cowardly against the strong and the good. It is perpetrated by those who cannot build, cannot create, who cannot achieve great things and take their revenge upon the world for their own inadequacy by seeking to destroy those who can. This is what radical Leftism is ……… It is a poisonous resentment cloaked in the language of Equality and Justice and Liberation and an overwhelming need to tear down what greater men have built …….. None of this is driven by Idealism. It is not Utopian. In fact it is the opposite! …….. We sometimes hear of Communism that it sounds good in theory but it never works in practice. That’s actually not true. …….. The world it envisions for all of us is small, flat, grey, levelled of all exception, drained of all that is good and noble in the human soul. The world it envisions is a world without courage, a world without creativity or ambition, a world without heroes or glory or great causes to strive towards ……… For these architects of revolutionary violence, the towering achievements of our civilization are …….. an unbearable humiliation, a reminder of what they cannot do and they cannot be. So they choose instead to destroy. ……. They despise the West because the West is Great!”
To the knee-jerk Leftist (and I emphasize the word “jerk”), the above is a grossly simplistic narrative that ignores the many abominations committed by White Westerners throughout the course of history. But Rubio is talking about Cultural Norms and Achievements and is hardly suggesting any sector of the species to be immune from vile, self-serving behavior. The basic absurdity of the Left, however, is to equate the Achievements of the West to a form of Oppression. It is a degenerate tactic rooted in the notion of Materialistic Determinism, the belief that we are mere animals whose “achievements” are but the products of our environment. Human Effort, Ingenuity and Integrity, in this world-view, are basically irrelevant, which makes the contemporary Left truly Nihilistic!
I understand that it must be difficult for a Canadian Indigenous to hear that Western European Civilization was infinitely more evolved than that of his own people. But this is an inarguable Fact and not the statement of some White Supremacist! While I am certainly not suggesting our Residential Schools to be free of abuses, the notion that their effort to educate their students was a form of Cultural Genocide is truly idiotic. So also, unfortunately, is the narrative of the contemporary Left, which has eliminated Intelligence and Achievement from its world-view in support of those who are rife with Envy, Resentment and Hatred!
