There are far more registered Democrats in California than there are Republicans. That conservative Steve Hilton may actually defeat Democrat Xavier Becerra in today’s gubernatorial contest is highly unlikely. On Oct. 14, Townhall posted a video of Hilton excoriating former Governor Gavin Newsome for the moral/legal decadence into which the state had declined as a result of his “tolerant” politics. As Hilton spoke, a staggering drug addict behind him could be seen doing his thing. One wonders, of course, if he might have been hired by Hilton to prove his point. But at the same time, one cannot help but think of San Francisco’s Democratic Mayor Daniel Lurie who, as I revealed in a recent blog, prioritized common sense over the inanity of “woke compassion.”
Given the Left’s understandable loathing for Donald Trump, it is highly unlikely that Californians will elect a Republican as their governor. But if the vote is significantly closer than the State’s past history would suggest, perhaps there is hope that Reason rather than Sentiment may ultimately come to be the defining value of Western Civilization. One can only hope!
