At 1 a.m. on Mar. 19, Sheridan Gorman, a student of Loyola U. Chicago, was shot and killed while walking in a park with friends in the hope of taking in the Northern Lights. As reported by the D.H.S., her murderer was Jose Medina, an individual identified as a “Venezuelan criminal illegal alien.” In a statement posted on Instagram, Loyola’s student newspaper used the term “illegal alien,” only to remove the post minutes later out of fear that it had insulted the immigrant population of Chicago. It has since gone to great lengths to apologize for its lack of sensitivity. The defining quote of its apologetic article reads as follows: “No human’s existence is illegal, and we quickly changed our wording to reflect that.”
The open border policy tolerated by Biden through his years in office would, if allowed to continue much longer, have utterly destroyed the quality of life in the American Republic. Indeed it is a policy which suggests a disregard for the very values upon which the country was founded. The millions allowed to enter the U.S. without going through the proper channels have exacerbated problems in the realms of law and order, unemployment, homelessness, drug addiction, deficit spending, electoral integrity, etc.. Am I suggesting all “illegal aliens” are guilty of anything as heinous as the taking of a human life? Of course not! But their designation as “illegals” is hardly arbitrary, their indifference to the Rule of Law being a symptom of the very chaos that led them to flee their homelands in the first place.
In this attempt to spare the feelings of immigrants who might be offended by their designation as “illegal,” the Loyola paper actually suggested various euphemistic alternatives… i.e., “immigrants lacking permanent legal status.” Such concerns are absurd to Sheridan’s parents who lost their daughter due to the policies of a government which clearly did not prioritize the safety of its own citizens. At the same time the urge to redefine Reality through the use of Euphemisms would seem to be typical of the contemporary Left which denies Reality at every turn. No, no, no, unmonitored immigration into the U.S. is not threatening the very quality of life within the country! ICE must be abolished! Crime is not out of control! Drug abuse is not killing thousands every year! Muslim migrants are not feeding Anti-Semitism! Jewish Synagogues are not under attack! So he’s ben arrested 10 times, compassion demands we release him on bail once again! Etc., etc., etc.!
The statement “No human’s existence is illegal” suggests those designated as “illegals” have done nothing wrong whatsoever. This simplistic bit of sentimentality literally spells the end of the Nation State and the reduction of the Western World to a State of Chaos!
