Having just re-watched a couple of interviews between Canada’s Jordan Peterson and Douglas Murray, I was reminded of the incomparable relevance of the latter’s 2022 best seller “The War on the West” to the contemporary political debate. Subtitled “How to Prevail in the Age of Unreason,” the book is not being taught in the universities of either Canada or the States as a valid survey of History, but is generally discussed as just another example of White Supremacism. And yet it is rife with Inarguable Historical Facts.
As I have pointed out is several earlier blogs, Slavery was primarily exploited by Black African peoples, and Great Britain fought against it throughout the 18th Century until it was finally banished it from its domain in the early 19th Century. Citing the many lives lost by Britain’s attempts to intercept slave ships along Africa’s coasts, as well as the devastating impact of America’s Civil War, the point of Murray’s book is the Absolute Absurdity of the contemporary Left’s neo-Marxist attempt to paint White Western Man as the greatest cancer in all of History.
That everything in the West is under attack by other Cultures, Murray says, is understandable. But that Western “liberals” seem intent on destroying their very own civilization is utterly absurd. Canada, Peterson adds, is perhaps most guilty of this lunacy. The stupidity of Revisionism, the application of 21st C. Post-Modern Values to the lives of those who lived hundreds of years ago, lies at the heart of the problem. Sir John A. MacDonald, apparently, had no right to refer to Canada’s Indigenous as Savages, even though the Civilization of which he was a product, having produced Socrates, Shakespeare, Mozart, etc., was infinitely more civilized in every way.
Attacking a fundamental principle of the contemporary Left, Murray refers to Multiculturalism as “a miracle of STUPIDITY.” How, he asks Jordan Peterson, can Western Nations mindlessly welcome millions of Muslims into their midst who see Women as the possessions of Men, Homosexuals as deviants worthy of execution and indeed all non-Muslims as somehow inferior? His book is absolutely worth reading and the disdain for the contemporary Left expressed by both he and Jordan Peterson would seem utterly valid to anyone of simple common sense.
