On Nov. 10 The Free Press, co-founded by the wonderful Bari Weiss, published a piece by Douglas Murray which highlights the absurdity of the sentimental notion that all people are basically the same, basically decent, and that attempts to deter those of certain beliefs from migrating to the West are Racist in origin. Significantly, the fact that both Weiss and Murray appear to be Gay while nevertheless being revered by “conservatives,” validates the simple Truth that it is the quality of one’s Ideas and Values rather than the Incidentals of Identity that inform rational “conservatism.”
Murray cites the fact that in Amsterdam, in 2004, Dutch film-maker Theo van Gogh was murdered by a Muslim immigrant while cycling to work, because his film “Submission” had dared suggest that mainstream Islam was unfair to Women! His killer, Mohammed Bouyeri, made it clear that Theo’s confederate, Ayaan Hirsi Ali and indeed anyone questioning the tenets of mainstream Islam, might very well suffer the same fate. Ali has since left The Netherlands, married “conservative” writer and intellectual Niall Ferguson and become a staunch defender of the notion that Islam’s values are fundamentally incompatible with those of our Western Democracies. While initially declaring herself an atheist, she recently came out as a Christian.
In 2002, Murray points out, Dutch politician and author Pim Fortuyn had also been assassinated by one Volkert van der Graaf for suggesting that Islam was a “backward” religion and urging his government to put a stop to the massive, unregulated influx of Muslims endorsed by the European Union. With typical Leftist “compassion,” the Dutch “legal” system, having sentenced van der Graaf to 18 years in prison, released him on bail after only 2 years. Apparently murdering someone of “conservative” views is no big deal in the Netherlands.
A few days ago, you may have read, violence broke out in the streets of Amsterdam in the aftermath of a soccer game involving an Israeli team. Supporters of that team, it appears, were not entirely innocent in provoking their assailants, yet they were definitely the victims rather than the perpetrators of the ensuing violence. Strangely, as anti-Semitic mobs of immigrants roamed the streets in search of their Jewish targets, the police made no arrests! It seems tolerance for the “other” [i.e., devotion to inclusiveness] entails a reluctance to arrest even brazen criminals for fear of being denounced as “racist.”
As reported by David Menzies of The Rebel, for approximately a year now Israeli sympathizers, many of them Jews, have been gathering peacefully in the Bathurst and Sheppard area of Toronto in support of Israel’s right to defend itself against the poison that is Hamas. But recently, Menzies says, anti-Israeli thugs, some sporting swastikas, have taken to disrupting these gatherings, claiming the Jews to be guilty of genocide and submitting their targets to some truly hateful, truly violent rhetoric. In attempting to report on one of these confrontations, Menzies was advised by police that his safety demanded he leave the scene immediately. Why, he wondered, were they openly admitting the violent nature of the anti-Israeli protesters, while doing nothing to stop them?
Britain, of course, chose to regain control of its borders through the Brexit vote. Its Culture, it was thought, was being poisoned by the influx of hundreds of thousands whose values were utterly incompatible with those of the post-Enlightenment West. Am I suggesting all White Westerners to be enlightened? Of course not! Am I suggesting all Muslims to be potential murderers? Of course not. But as Ayaan Hirse Ali says, orthodox members of her former religion hold views about Women, Gays and the very concept of Personal Freedom that ought to outrage anyone of a truly liberal mindset. Even more chilling is the fact that Islam always has been and still is aggressively intolerant of “the other,” as is evident in several countries throughout Asia and Africa today. As I have mentioned in earlier blogs, Turkey’s Tayyip Erdogan crassly invited Muslims from all over the world to take advantage of the European Union’s open border policies and Islamize the entire continent!
Immigration is a complex issue. While I find the mindless approach of both the European Union and Biden’s America absurd, I am not suggesting all Arabs and/or Muslims be denied entry to our Western Democracies. Yes, those who have shown any degree of fundamentalist Islamic intolerance ought to be turned away. How absurd is it that the murderers of both Theo van Gogh and Pim Fortuyn were welcomed into Europe with open arms? More troubling, however, is the reluctance of “progressives” throughout the West to defend our truly liberal values before the often vile behaviour of certain migrant groups simply because they are members of “the other,” i.e., non-White, non-Christian, etc.. Why was Pim Fortuyn’s murderer granted bail after only 2 years? Why have the anti-Semitic mobs of Amsterdam, Toronto and multiple other cities throughout Europe and North America been allowed to spew their hatred with only moderate responses from their local authorities? Indeed why did Joe Biden recently admonish the Israelis for their part in the ongoing middle-eastern conflict?
Yes, innocent Palestinians are dying, but they are dying because of Hamas, a despicable horde of Nazis whose minds are mired in the 7th Century! Ought not true progressives, then, to feel perfectly justified in repudiating any migrant to the West who dares protest on behalf of Hamas? Ought not Canadian cops to be arresting those screaming anti-Semitic slurs in the streets of Toronto? That they are not, of course, is due to the Left’s inauguration of Inclusiveness as the defining value of our Civilization, a development which actually prohibits us from defending our liberal values for fear of hurting the feelings of those who do not share them. This irony is no doubt why so many former liberals are now fleeing to conservatism as the legitimate home of their enlightened values!
Imagine hordes of White Christians storming the streets of various North American cities chanting anti-Semitic slurs. Expressions of outrage from both government and the media would be relentless. Yet that those doing so are neither White or Christian apparently exonerates them of any responsibility for their hatred. Such is the absurd state of our Culture bequeathed us by the Inclusive Left!
