As Dave Rubin points out, Bill Maher has probably referred to Donald Trump as Adolf Hitler at least 50 times in the past. Yet in a post-election interview with Black Democrat Stephen A. Smith, both men agreed that Trump was most likely NOT a Racist. Echoing the beliefs endorsed by Coleman Hughes, Smith explains Trump’s often contentious behaviour as the product of the Culture to which he was born rather than Racial Intolerance. All of his Black friends who have dealt with Trump, he says, have found him “very cool.”
Jonathan Garthwaite, a conservative, has often lamented the condescending arrogance of the contemporary Left which has tended to dismiss anyone willing to vote for Donald Trump as an uneducated simpleton. But a few days ago CNN’s Van Jones made the very same point, suggesting the astonishment of many of his peers regarding the outcome of the recent election proved them to be utterly out of touch with the values and concerns of the average American.
In an appearance on The View, Charlamagne tha God chided the Left for being so utterly self-righteous, fanatically convinced that it occupies the “moral high ground” on very issue. Ironically, Whoopi’s angry response bristled with self-righteousness. As reported by The Blaze on Oct. 24, Chalamagne had just interviewed Lara Trump, Donald’s daughter-in-law, on one of his podcasts. Lara maintained that most everyone who meets Trump, Man or Woman, Black or White, likes him. Indeed she and her host watched a video of Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer in a lengthy exchange with Trump at a public event in which the two seemed to be the best of friends, laughing continually. The irony, of course, is that Schumer had repeatedly referred to Trump as a threat to America’s Democracy! Chalamagne’s conclusion was that the demonization of the Orange One was clearly a game the Democrats were playing in a desperate attempt to stay in power. Given that he too had frequently reviled Trump, this was quite the admission!
Naomi Wolf, a longtime Feminist and Democrat, shockingly announced as the 2024 presidential election approached that she would be voting for Donald Trump. Never in a million years, she said, could I have imagined such a move. Her disenchantment with the Left, it seems, was incited by its attempt to silence her in her various criticisms of the Biden government’s handling of the Covid pandemic. Awakened to other examples of Leftist authoritarianism, she said, as reported by The Blaze on Oct. 31: “At a certain point, you can’t support the fascists.” Of Donald Trump, she declared in an interview with conservative Steve Bannon: “In person he’s very different from the caricature.” Given that she is of Jewish extraction, she attended a speech given by Trump on the current conflict in the Middle East which led her to exclaim: “I saw someone who was eloquent, articulate, thoughtful, very funny, etc., etc.. ” Really? How does this jibe with the mainstream media’s never ending rant that Trump is an ignorant, racist, misogynistic moron barely distinguishable from Adolf Hitler?
Perhaps the gap between what Leftist Elitists think they are, and what they really are, is no better expressed than in Piers Morgan’s many commentaries on N.Y. City’s annual Met Gala. A charity event typically attended by hundreds of Hollywood celebrities, most of whom are well meaning Leftists, it nevertheless, he says, illustrates their utter disconnect from mainstream America. Passionate Global Warming advocates, many of them in fact fly to N.Y. in private planes. The outrageously expensive and often revealing outfits worn by many of the women, Morgan suggests, smack of narcissism and ironically impugn their membership in an ideology that never stops ranting about the “privileges” of Wealthy Elites! Where, he wonders, do these self-indulgent simpletons get the nerve to preach to ordinary people struggling with rising crime rates, massive inflation, the collapse of their country’s borders, a pandemic of fentanyl related deaths, etc., etc., simply because they see, for very good reasons, Donald Trump as the most logical answer to their woes?
It’s not surprising, of course, that the acerbic Piers Morgan sees “liberals” in this light. What is surprising, however, is that an individual such as Naomi Wolf now sees the Republican Party as that best suited to defend her liberal values. In one of his appearances on The View, Ben Carson tried to explain to Whoopi how he, an intelligent Black Man, could support Donald Trump. It’s about much more than Trump’s personal flaws, he argued. It’s about the future of America. It’s about the freedoms and values upon which it was founded, freedoms and values presently under attack from the Neo-Marxist Left. Whoopi, of course failed to understand and continued to rant.
Yet there is cause for hope in the fact that many who formerly dismissed everything they disagreed with as “far-right” fanaticism, now seem willing to admit that there is perhaps another point of view worth considering. Naomi Wolf’s reference to the mainstream media’s depiction of Donald Trump as a “caricature” is particularly interesting in that it points to the contemporary Left’s tendency to avoid actual discussion of the complex issues at hand by engaging in crude personal attacks. Having done so himself multiple times, Bill Maher, who clearly prides himself on his rationality, is now apparently willing to admit that perhaps Trump is not a Racist. Hmm, interesting!
