On August 23, Canada’s National Post published two wonderful articles on the laws governing the right to self-defence of law-abiding citizens whose homes have been invaded by those of obvious criminal intent. As most such invasions occur at night, their intended victims are clearly stressed to decide in 2 or 3 seconds both the extent to which their assailants are armed and the nature of their criminal designs. The two articles in question seek to illuminate how this country’s legal system treats those who respond with violence to their intruders, perhaps even killing them in the belief that their lives and that of their families may be at stake. What is revealed is that while these people are almost always exonerated for their actions, they are invariably dragged through our courts for well over a year, burdened with lawyers’ fees which in some cases devastate their lives. This is insane. They become, quite literally, the victims of our legal system! But how does that system treat the degenerate animals who broke into their homes?
The Post article written by Jamie Sarkonak opens with a report on the fate of Clifford Stauffer, an 83 year old Alberta man who was bludgeoned to death in June of 2021 by 4 or 5 home invaders, only 2 of whom, Linden Buffalo and Donovan Lightning, were convicted of manslaughter in 2024 and sentenced to less than 2 years in jail. Lightning, Sarkonak points out, was obviously released early inasmuch as he was arrested in June of this year for another crime. Her point, quite obviously, is that Canada’s “progressive” legal system seems impervious to the radical moral differences between the perpetrators and victims of such home invasions. The sentences given to the 2 individuals mentioned above were light because it could not be determined who had actually killed Stauffer. The court’s failure to make that determination was obviously rooted in the refusal of all those involved to tell the truth! Given this fact, I would suggest all of them should have been incarcerated for more than a mere 2 years. Their collective criminal antics led to Mr. Stauffer’s death. And oh, by the way, the fact that he was 83 ought to be irrelevant.
What seems to be missing from a legal system which submits the victims of home invasions to costly, prolonged, life-altering procedures, while submitting their killers to minimal detention behind bars, is an utter lack of regard for the moral status of those involved. But Morality is not of course a defining factor for the Left. While I have been unable to validate this, their names would suggest that both Buffalo and Lightning are ethnically Indigenous. Could this have anything to do with the fact that they were given only 2 years for ending the life of another human being?
As detailed in an Aug. 9 article in the Hamilton Spectator, on May 15 of 2020 an Indigenous woman named Larissa Shingebis bludgeoned to death 79 year old retired nurse Gladys Little in the latter’s own Hamilton apartment. Significantly, Shingebis, who clearly has serious mental issues, had clashed with the police several times in the weeks leading up to Little’s death. Two of those incidents had seen her taken to a local hospital for psychological assessment. But why, one wonders, was she released when she clearly had a penchant for violence? In discussing her case, assistant Crown Attorney Eric Taylor opined that Shingebis had had “little chance to succeed” in life and that her story “speaks to our country’s treatment of Indigenous people.” It’s the Neo-Marxist narrative of victimization that informs the Left, a narrative that exonerates all members of the “oppressed” of personal responsibility for their actions, leading its adherents to expose the law-abiding public to the violence of psychopaths such as Shingebis because of events that happened long before she was born!
Shingebis has been sentenced to 2 years in prison for murdering the much beloved nurse Little. That she frankly admitted her guilt has been deemed a sign of her mental recovery. But unless it can be established unequivocally that she is no longer subject to irrational outbursts of violence, I would suggest she ought to be kept in one form of detention or another indefinitely. That murderers such as she, Linden Buffalo and Donovan Lightning might be granted their freedom after only 2 years because of their Indigenous Identity, is truly insane! That the safety of the law-abiding public is now imperilled by the Ideology of the Left, is just plain stupid!
