I have dozens of newspaper clippings that validate the truth of what I am about to say. I shall cite but one from Jan. of 2025 to make my point. Written by Shellene Drakes-Tull, a Toronto based educator who frequently appears in The Star, her article is entitled: “Delete social media, save democracy.”
First of all, her very title ironically suggests her loathing for Free Speech, formerly considered an integral aspect of any healthy Democracy. Yes, she hates the fact that those with whom she disagrees are allowed to express their opinions. Her attack on Canadian conservatives Jordan Peterson and Pierre Poilievre is particularly ironic in that it highlights the very sin of which she and most “liberals” are themselves so very guilty. Accusing each of these gentlemen of ignoring “historical context” in attempting to validate their views, she then proceeds to utterly ignore historical context throughout the rest of her article. The double standard to which she is committed, were its repercussions not so horrid, is comic in its absurdity.
Pointing out that “slavery was legal in Upper and Lower Canada from the early 1600s to1834,” she conveniently fails to mention that while William Wilberforce banished slavery from the British Empire in 1833, it continued to be a reality in multiple regimes throughout Asia and Africa. Yes, the horrible, “colonialist” Brits were in fact more truly progressive than most of the rest of the species. In the same attempt to demonize White Western Cultures, multiple Leftists have scornfully pointed out that the U. S tolerated slavery from its very inception. What they conveniently fail to mention is that most of the country’s founding fathers were adamantly opposed to the practise, yet felt helpless due to the South’s obvious dependence upon it. It took only 85 years, however, for Lincoln and his Enlightened government to launch the Civil War in an effort to eradicate Slavery, an effort which led to the deaths of over 300,000 Americans.
In every aspect of the Left’s attack on Western Civilization, it ignores historical context in support of its superficial Marxist ideology. Canada’s Residential Schools were clearly far more than an attempt at Cultural Genocide. While Male arrogance was no doubt involved, the role of Women throughout the past was clearly determined by a host of historical realities no longer relevant today. While there are millions of Muslims no doubt chafing against the authoritarian strictures of their leaders, Western criticism of Islam is rooted not in Hatred but in the simple facts of history, facts which unequivocally suggest various Islamic regimes to be more than a thousand years behind the West in their approach to Women, Gays and indeed the basic Right to Freedom of every Individual.
Shellene Drakes-Tull’s article is typical of the superficiality of the contemporary Left which eliminates Merit, Intelligence, Achievement and indeed the Facts of History from its narrative, in its determination to prove White Western Civilization to be the most “oppressive” force in all of human history.
