As reported by Lucy Biggers of The Free Press on Oct.28, Bill Gates, long a staunch advocate of the Left’s Global Warming agenda, recently denounced his earlier position, admitting both that the war on fossil fuels, pipelines, etc. was having a devastating impact on millions of people, while the species was perfectly able to deal with the challenges imposed on it by our changing climate. Humanity, he said, was in no immanent danger of extinction, in spite of the panic incited by the Left over the last few years.
As I have pointed out in previous blogs, it is a geologically verified fact that the world’s climate has been fluctuating throughout its history. Inasmuch as Man is responsible for a small fraction of the planet’s greenhouse gases, it is mere speculation that he is responsible for the contemporary warming trend. At the same time it is also a fact that our supply of fossil fuels will be gone in a few decades. Gates’ new Common Sense position would seem to be that we continue to benefit from the energy available to us, while at the same developing technology which might save us in the future. It is a position, Biggers says, held by multiple scientists over the last few years who have been scorned, cancelled and even fired from their positions for failing to bow before the Left’s alarmist narrative.
But why, you might ask, would the Left be so eager to demonize the technology so essential to the West’s dominant position in the world? If you are a conservative, you no doubt know the answer. The Left loathes Capitalism, loathes Achievement, loathes Success and the “Inequities” to which it leads! Such is the Neo-Marxist inanity at the heart of the oft expressed opinion that America’s Indigenous ought to be admired for their more or less complete lack of technology! The Irony and Hypocrisy of this point of view, of course, is that the many “intellectuals,” commentators and politicians who share it, have no problem wallowing in the luxuries afforded them by Western Man’s “exploitation” of the planet. Radical Canadian Environmentalist Davis Suzuki is in fact a Millionaire!
Bill Gates appears to have abandoned the Left’s Environmental Fanaticism in favour of simple Common Sense. It is a trend that seems to be gathering momentum here in the Democratic West. Hence the re-election of Donald Trump. Hence the fact that an increasing number of young people seem to be embracing conservatism! As I pointed out in my last blog, the willingness of individuals such as Gates to put Reason before Ideological Bias is essential to genuine Political Progress. Fortunately, as I shall discuss in my next blog, a number of Republicans are displaying the same sort of integrity in denouncing the sometimes questionable tactics of Donald Trump.
