As reported by Chris Stigall of Salem News on Dec. 8, the mayor of Minneapolis, in response to Trump’s determination to send ICE agents to the city to deal with its Somali immigrants, has declared he will in no way cooperate with those agents and indeed will utterly ban them from access to any city owned properties. The mayor of Chicago is similarly inclined while the Ugandan Mayor of New York, not surprisingly, has said he also will in no way cooperate with the agents sent to his city.
Now should ICE seek to deport foreigners who entered the U.S. legally and have since committed no crimes whatsoever, I would hope the American judiciary would absolutely defend their rights. At the same time, however, the dozens of Sanctuary Cities across the States which are doing everything in their power to stop the federal government from dealing even with those who entered the country illegally, is truly disconcerting. Most of these cities are of course in Blue States, those controlled by the Democrats. San Francisco has been a sanctuary city since 1980! L.A. officially declared itself to be so in 2024. As a result of problems in the realms of crime, housing, deficit spending, etc. caused by the uncontrolled influx of unidentified immigrants, California is in fact being abandoned by thousands of tax paying citizens who no doubt feel betrayed by their government! According to the statistics supplied by Chris Stigall, 1 person leaves the state every minute and 44 seconds. If my math is right, this amounts to just under a thousand per day. Incredible!
As I said in my last blog, some of Trump’s statements on immigration have been typically exaggerated and ill thought out. Yet he does generally back off from his bullying tactics and reach some sort of sensible resolution, posing, for example, 75% tariffs on certain nations only to settle on a much lower number. But while I am hardly heralding him as a model of “conservative” Rationalism, his dispatching of ICE agents to various American cities makes perfect sense. The thousands fleeing California and other Blue states are doing so not because they are racists, but because they want to escape the chaos induced by the Left’s utterly absurd, typically sentimental immigration policies.
