As reported by Townhall on Dec. 26, Arizona State Senator Janae Shamp is seeking to have the state’s Department of Health Services conduct a formal study on the nature and causes of Trump Derangement Syndrome. This affliction, she feels, lies at the heart of the ugly hostility that has come to separate the Left from the Right in the contemporary U.S.. Her analysis of this situation, I would suggest, is simplistic if not utterly silly.
The sad truth is that Rational, Intelligent Conservatives who defend their views with sheer Logic, are habitually denounced by the Left as fascists, racists, etc.. The Left does this because it has no other option, given the Mindless Sentiment at the heart of its ideology. But Trump makes it easy for the Left to score points in that he frequently expresses himself like an arrogant dictator! While I agree with many of his objectives, his manner of achieving them often amounts to little more than bullying. In a Feb. 1, 2025 article in the National Post, Canadian conservative Conrad Black says Trump’s “disruptive” manner of negotiating with others is basically to a game of poker in which he attempts to bluff them into submitting to his will. He threatens them with 75% tariffs knowing full well he will settle for far less! While Black clearly implies Trump is not the monster he appears to be, I would suggest the president’s disregard for the norms of civilized discourse leads quite naturally to outrage amongst those with whom he is dealing. In the case of Canada, America’s closest ally, he is clearly attempting to bully us into submission.
My point is that Janae Shamp’s suggestion that Trump Derangement Syndrome is a form of mental illness that needs medical attention, is truly simplistic. I frequently watch him make statements with which I basically agree, while nevertheless thinking to myself: “You egotistical jerk!” As I have read in multiple articles, millions of Americans voted for Donald Trump while holding their noses. What is needed on both sides of the political divide is simple common sense, a perspective from which conservative views on Border Integrity, Law and Order, Trans Fanaticism, etc., must inevitably hold away, in spite of the often obnoxious behavior of Mr. Trump!
