Canada’s Federal Court of Appeals has just upheld the 2024 ruling of Judge Richard Mosley who declared Justin Trudeau’s 2022 invocation of the Emergencies Act against the country’s Trucker Convoy to be both unjustified and a violation of the Charter Rights of its participants! As you may well know, the bank accounts of many protesters were seized and figures such as Tamara Lich and Chris Barber, who had much to do with inciting them, have been judicially tormented ever since.
As events in Ottawa unfolded in 2022, I watched multiple videos which indicated that the protests were 99.9% non-violent! I witnessed children playing, the homeless being fed and people literally dancing in the street. Yes, downtown Ottawa was paralyzed and there were some random acts of vandalism. But the fundamental issue, it seems to me, is whether there was any justification for the truckers’ conviction that their personal freedoms and indeed their ability to earn a living had been compromised for reasons that were truly questionable.
The contemporary Left is implicitly, unconsciously, inarguably prone to Authoritarianism. A fundamental aspect of Socialism’s loathing for Capitalism is the belief that Free Enterprise must inevitably result in widespread social injustice due to the degenerate moral and intellectual proclivities of the species. A perfect example of the Left’s actual disdain for human freedom is its habitual use of the term “hate speech” to stifle any opinion with which it does not agree! But the many references I have made to the medieval anti-humanism of mainstream Islam, for example, are rooted not in “islamophobia” but in verifiable Fact.
Given this context, it was perfectly predictable that Canada’s “liberal” government would impose widespread restrictions on its citizens in the belief that they were too irresponsible to deal with the Covid threat in a reasonable fashion. But our truckers, feeling capable of continuing to earn their living while taking all the precautions necessary to insure the health of both themselves and others, saw Justin Trudeau’s mandates as mindlessly oppressive. When he invoked the Emergencies Act, 90% of my “liberal” acquaintances took his side, seeing the truckers as a bunch of greedy bastards with no concern for others. Yet Canada’s Judiciary now seems convinced that Trudeau did in fact violate the basic principles of a liberal democracy. But what is even more appalling is the radical difference between the vicious reactions of both of the press and Leftist politicians in general to Canada’s Freedom Convoy, and their relatively muted criticism of the 2020 protests of B.L.M.!
Yes, there are no doubt racist cops in the States. But if an inordinate number of Blacks are annually taken into custody by the police, it is because an inordinate number of Blacks are responsible for the country’s crime rates. This again is a simple Fact. What were not so simple were the circumstances surrounding George Floyd’s death. Floyd, a career criminal, lost his life due both to the insensitivity of Officer Chauvin and the inordinate amounts of fentanyl and other drugs flowing through his veins. Yet the narrative that dominated the mainstream media throughout 2020 was that he was just another poor, innocent Black Man victimized by White, Racist America. Equally disingenuous was the systematic under-reporting of the violence flooding America’s streets, violence that resulted in several deaths and over 2 billion dollars in damages to the country’s infrastructure.
The results of a media driven more by Ideology than respect for the Truth have been catastrophic. The vast majority of the brain dead Left feels perfectly comfortable in self-righteously defending the simplistic fantasy that the BLM protests of 2020 were a noble quest for social justice waged by the innocent victims of centuries of oppression. Yes, that young Black man who vandalized a store owned by a young White couple is not a Racist, but a Social Justice Warrior!
Yet a 2022 opinion piece by Mark Carney in Canada’s Globe and Mail referred to the streets of Ottawa, where children played and the poor were being fed, as the horrific result of the seditious insurrection of Canada’s anarchistic truckers! Yes, the various terms he used were clearly meant to suggest the protesters were utter degenerates!
The Double Standard cited above is truly ridiculous, while the fact that so many fail to see it, is truly Pathetic!
