Tennessee Republican Marsha Blackburn recently informed her 150,000 Facebook followers that as far as she was concerned: “Biological men have no place in women’s sports.” This would seem to be a rational observation rooted not in hatred for transgenders but in sympathy for the millions of women whose careers might be jeopardized by a minority with obvious biological advantages. Facebook, however, decided that Blackburn’s statement constituted “hate speech” and banished it from her site.
The burgeoning anger among “conservatives” which the Left attributes to their ever increasing extremism, is in fact perfectly justified. Bill Mahr says the Achilles Heel of Democrats is their apparent abandonment of simple common sense. Facebook’s cancellation of Blackburn’s statement is both intellectually and morally absurd. In defining the “Community Standards” that inform its criteria, it cites the by now familiar list of vulnerable groups that are apparently above criticism. If you are Female or Black or Gay or Transgender, it would seem, you can do and say pretty much whatever you want with impunity. Thus are those born Male, who say they are now Female, allowed to arrogantly ignore the biological realities of their condition and compete with women on an equal basis. It is Identity Politics in all its inanity and it is the dementia that has come to dominate our “progressive” civilization!
