Sportscaster Keith Olbermann has just left ESPN to host a You Tube show devoted to the current political situation in the States. In explaining his concerns this past Thursday, he went on as follows:
The task is two-fold: the terrorist Trump must be defeated, must be destroyed, must be devoured at the ballot box, and then he, and his enablers, and his supporters, and his collaborators, and the Mike Pences, the Rudy Giulianis and the Kyle Rittenhouses and the Amy Coney Barretts must be prosecuted and convicted and removed from our society while we try to rebuild ……the world Trump has destroyed by turning it over to a virus.
A little later he refers to all those who would vote for Trump as “maggots.”
From a rational, civilized point of view, every cherished “truth” of the Left is eminently debatable if not demonstrably absurd…..i.e., the notion of systemic racism, the historically vacuous concept of White privilege, the belief that gender is a mere social construct, the belief that all Cultures are equally valid, that science and math are mere Western eccentricities yet somehow those who cling to non-rational, non-scientific world-views are in no way responsible for the socioeconomic consequences, etc., etc.
For Olbermann, “conservatives” skeptical of these generally accepted “progressive” items of faith are terrorists, racists, maggots! A recently introduced piece of Republican legislation called the “Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act” designed to force doctors to save the lives of infants who survive their abortions, was rejected by Democrats. Amy Coney Barrett no doubt supported the bill. How dare she! What a monster! What a maggot!
Reality leaves me no choice but to declare that Olbermann is both embarrassingly stupid and intolerably arrogant. But his impulse to criminalize anyone who dares disagree with him defines the very essence of “cancel culture,” the very essence of the Fascism evident not only in the tactics of Antifa and BLM but throughout the self-righteous Left. Write a book identifying Covid 19 with China and Amazon will cancel you, but produce a plaque inciting the poor to kill the rich and it will sell it to you for $39.95 Canadian. Pile junk on an Edmonton railway track to impede work on a lawfully mandated energy project and the CBC will celebrate you, but show up and peaceably remove that junk and it will revile you as a vigilante. Utter a word of criticism of some of the truly repulsive aspects of Sharia Law and prepare to be denounced as an Islamophobe, but dare to defend the Catholic beliefs of Amy Coney Barrett and you are no more than a maggot. How does one address a sector of the species which has in fact lost its Mind? How does one engage in rational debate with those infected with the absurd postmodern notion that Reason is but an instrument of oppression?
In this computer age we are at the mercy of various tech giants. A video reveals the powers-that-be at Google expressing outrage at Trump’s victory in 2016. Representatives of both Facebook and Twitter have openly stated their intention of censoring any election night information that might facilitate his victory in 2020. The narrative being relentlessly fomented by the Left is that Trump will refuse to turn over the reins of power even if soundly defeated. It is a charge built mainly around his unwillingness to declare exactly what he will do should the results of Nov. 3 prove inconclusive. “We’ll wait and see” has been his answer. But the “Transition Integrity Project,” funded by the radical Leftist George Soros with the intention of prohibiting Trump from “stealing” the election, says basically the same thing on its website: “We face a period of contestation stretching from the first day a ballot is cast in mid September until January 20.” Is this not basically a re-statement of the fact that America may have to wait and see? Is this not what Trump is saying?
As Don Bongino and a host of other “conservative” commentators have stated repeatedly, the Left has been laying the groundwork for an armed revolution for some time now. Indeed to any but the most deluded it has already begun in the nation’s streets. The narrative seems to be that if Trump wins the election it will be as a result of fraud whereas if he loses he will simply refuse to leave office. Its the classic “Heads I win, tails you lose” ploy. The Transition Integrity Project says quite succinctly that Democrats should prepare for a “street fight.”
While I am not so naive as to think that Trump is incapable of what his accusers are saying, I am utterly certain that those Republicans who genuinely revere the Constitution, and that includes most of them, will adhere to the Rule of Law in the challenging months ahead. I watch Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee and a host of “conservative” commentators and I hear mostly the voice of Reason. I listen to Keith Olbermann’s rant and I hear only hatred, arrogance, intolerance and a decided predilection to violence. I know there are many within what we shall generously call the “protest movement” who are decent people. But the videos I watch almost daily tell me there are thousands who are hysterical, weaponized, obscenity spewing idiots. And it is in their hands that the The Transition Project has placed the future of the nation, its call for a “street fight” echoed throughout the Left by those who long ago decided their personal agenda utterly supersedes the Rule of Law.
One might suggest that in using Olbermann’s brainless rant to characterize the Left, I have been unfair. But remember, N.Y. Times writer Nicholas Kristof, himself a “liberal,” felt compelled in 2016 to condemn the growing intolerance he saw among his political confederates. Former counter-cultural radical Paul Berman is now appalled by the behavior of many on the Left. Dave Rubin has recoiled from what he now sees as its intellectual bankruptcy. And Brandon Straka, another former “liberal,” recently began the “Walk Away” movement invoking others to leave behind an orientation he now find utterly repulsive.
Actress Kirstie Alley has recently become quite active online. Responding to the mainstream media’s tendency to paint Trump as an unmitigated monster not for what he says but for the way he says it, she recently tweeted: You hate him. Just report that!
