A few days ago Jordan Peterson announced he has been ordered by Ontario’s College of Psychologists to undergo social media retraining as a result of several tweets it felt indicated he was no longer able to perform effectively as a clinical psychologist. The College is empowered to both validate and cancel the licenses of those of his profession.
Last Jan. 23, Pierre Poilievre condemned the Liberal’s Covid lock down strategy as a gross abuse of government power. Peterson agreed, referring harshly to the “idiot rules” that had been imposed on Canadians. In various tweets since then he has been highly critical of Justine Trudeau and other “liberal” officials, questioned the validity of the contemporary global warming narrative and, most relevant to his status as a doctor, railed against the absurdity of submitting minors to irreversible gender altering surgeries when they are obviously unable to comprehend the complexities of their situations.
Clearly politically “incorrect” yet aware that his language has at times been inappropriate, Peterson, who has refused to submit himself to “retraining,” says he has in fact made a conscious effort lately to alter the “tone” of his public comments. Of course there’s no pleasing those determined to take offense from everything one says. In response to a person who tweeted that overpopulation represented a dire threat to the planet, Peterson answered whimsically: “You’re free to leave at any point.” The individual in question suggested it was highly inappropriate for one in the medical profession to recommend suicide to a member of the public. Really? Was that Peterson’ intention? Or was his detractor guilty of the typically Leftist strategy of characterizing every opposing opinion as a simple matter of Hate, thereby rendering the Hater eligible for “cancellation.”
Peterson is taking the College to court in defense of his right to his political views while continuing to function as a clinical psychologist in Ontario. His case is a perfect example of the relentless Fascism of the contemporary Left, an obvious replication of Orwell’s Big Brother which, while censoring every p.o.v. of which it does not approve, has ludicrously managed to convince itself it is a force for love, freedom and human diversity!
