Trump vs. Iran: An Unbiased Appraisal

In a video posted by Salem News a week ago, Larry Elder attempted to expose the absurdity of what Republicans generally deride as “Trump derangement syndrome.” Focusing on the President’s declaration of war on Iran, he cites the comments of The N.Y. Times’ Tom Friedman who frankly admitted that the Iranian Regime under siege is reprehensible in a multitude of ways, while simultaneously expressing his hope that neither Trump or Netanyahu, both horrid individuals, will in any way be credited for their efforts to destroy it.

Odd, Elder says, that Friedman openly admits Trump’s eradication of Iran’s present regime would benefit both peace in the Middle East as well as the welfare of the long suffering citizens of that country, yet refuses to give him any credit whatsoever. Pushing a radically different perspective on the same issue, Democrat David Boyce of the Wall Street Journal, while admitting he too is not a fan of Donald Trump, insists Americans must support him 100% in his attempt to disempower a fanatical regime which poses a nuclear threat to the rest of the world. Several American presidents over the last few decades, Boyce says, have expressed concern over the same issue without doing anything about it. The paradoxical implication would seem to be that Trump’s Arrogance and his Courage are ineffably co-related, and that the very traits that make him obnoxious to many are at the same time the source of his willingness to pursue perfectly valid albeit consternating goals. Boyce concludes his Wall Street Journal article with the observation that one must judge politicians on the basis of their Policies rather than their Personalities, and that Thomas Friedman’s loathing for Donald Trump has utterly compromised his ability to comment rationally on his performance as President!

To Larry Elder, Democrat Chuck Schumer is similarly incapacitated, declaring Trump’s assault on Iran to be a failure in every way. Mocking the President’s admittedly premature declaration of victory in the conflict, Schumer points out its many negative ramifications, including of course the rising cost of living here in the West due to the rising price of gasoline. But while Elder does not dispute the various dangers born of Trump’s initiative, he nevertheless insists the refusal of those such as Schumer to support the elimination of a regime that is truly oppressive, is un-American and inexcusable.

Coincidentally, just today The Free Press published a piece citing the dire economic consequences of Iran’s inability to export its oil products. It is possible that it may in fact be forced to accede to many of Trump’s demands…i.e., dismantling its nuclear program, ceasing to support anti-Israeli terrorist groups, etc., etc.. These developments would of course enhance the benefits born of the Abraham Accords which saw several Arab nations normalize their relationships with Israel in 2020. That these Accords were also forged by Trump during his first term is but further evidence that the unqualified hatred for the President expressed by Democrats such as Friedman and Schumer is grossly simplistic and in fact worthy of the term “deranged.” This would seem to be the point of Larry Elder’s Salem News podcast. Trump is not perfect, but he is certainly not the conscienceless monster constantly invoked by the Left.
